When I was growing up my family didn’t go to church. My parents were both good people and taught me basic values and for that I’m very grateful. I realize now that many people don’t even get that. So I thought that there was no absolute right or wrong, just people’s opinions. And mine was just as valid as anyone else’s. I lived my life doing what pleased me. I was the number one priority in my life.
One of my friends got “saved” and I noticed a change in him. He developed a servant’s heart, which was the opposite of how he had been. One person would go get everyone’s lunch each day and nobody wanted to do it but my friend started volunteering to do it every day. Wow! What a change. He later gave me a Four Spiritual Laws tract and one night at home I read it. I was convicted by what I read and I prayed the prayer at the end to receive Jesus as my Savior.
After that prayer I got up and went and looked in the mirror because I felt different. No, I still looked the same but I felt different. Another friend of mine told me three months later that “you look the same but you are a completely different person on the inside”. What I used to love I hated and what I used to hate I loved. What a God! Only He can change you from the inside out.
My favorite verse is John 17:17, “Sanctify them through thy truth. Thy word is truth.” I found out that there is absolute right and absolute wrong. It’s found in the bible. God’s word is truth. If God would save a sinner like me, He will save a sinner like you too.
